Ava for Professionals

Let's make total accessibility happen, together.

Finally a better solution for group conversations than hearing aids and lipreading.

In a group conversation, each smartphone with Ava is turned into a smart microphone for each person. Ava captions what people says in less than a second. Always looking at the best for your patients? Offer them the forefront of accessibility: many mobile ears and an artificial intelligence to complement hearing aids.
How does Ava works for group conversations.

Hearing aids, lip-reading or other assistive listening devices are not always enough for your deaf/hard-of-hearing patients to follow conversations. Restaurants, group conversations, spending time with friends, these are all situations that are challenging because. Not anymore - these situations are exactly what Ava has been designed for.

Ava is a mobile app that everyone (coworkers, family members, friends) download on their smartphone. By connecting each other via the app, every smartphone becomes a microphone, and Ava captions what the group says on the deaf/hard-of-hearing person phone. They can then answer by either talking, or if they have a “Deaf” voice, typing. Ava can even voice the deaf person’s answer.

Where the work of captioners stops, Ava steps in.

Ava is a machine-based captioning system for all the conversations with no accessibility. Designed with captioners in mind, working with them hand in hand.
Why Ava?

Working with highly-skilled captioners like you is not always an option in situations where deaf/hard-of-hearing people find themselves into. Time or budget constraints may prevent them from getting the accessibility they deserve. We’re talking about restaurants, last-minute stand-up meetings or dates. And it’s exactly for these moments that Ava has been designed.

What Ava means for captioners

Ava’s machine-intelligence-based system does not provide the same level of 98.5% accuracy that you provide as a skilled captioner. That’s why Ava does not aim to replace captioning services, but only to make conversations accessible in situations where there’s no accessibility in place.

Ava aims to relay the work of captioners. For example, when you close your stenotype after captioning an important meeting but the deaf/hard-of-hearing person still has a day full of conversations, we want to keep providing them the accessibility they deserve for these more casual conversations.

With a growing base of tens of thousands of deaf & hard-of-hearing people, Ava has become the world’s largest network of potential clients for you. We’re often asked about accessibility recommendations in situations where Ava is not optimal. In our support for total accessibility, we’re happy to recommend your work to some of our users.

If you’re an independent captioner or you work for a captioning agency and you’re interested in working on this continuous accessibility with us, please get in touch with us by leaving your information below.

We’re eager to work hand in hand with you on providing a more ubiquitous accessibility to the world.

Why Ava?

The work environment is extremely challenging for your deaf or hard-of-hearing coworkers. Not being able to understand what’s being said in group meetings results in not being able to get involved and actually participate.

This is not only tremendously frustrating for the deaf or hard-of-hearing person, but also for their colleagues. Including everyone all the time is hard. Ava makes it much easier, and extremely affordable.

An active student life also happens outside of the classroom, far from any accessibility service provided. Deaf/hard-of-hearign students should not be forced to miss out on dorm conversations, group study sessions, cafeteria discussions, workshops and whatnots.

Though they’re often interpreted/captioned, classrooms can be very challenging for deaf/hard-of-hearing students when it’s not the case. Fast speaking pace, teachers’ movement, difficulty of reading lips at a distance, comments of the students missed… When accessibility services are not available, Ava may be a great option.
