How to Sign "Food" in Sign Language

This sign is one that many learn when learning baby sign language– you may have seen it before!

Signing “Food”

  1. Hand shape: Form your dominant hand into a flattened “O” shape
  2. Hand location: Bring your dominant hand to your mouth
  3. Movement: Tap your dominant hand against your lips, signifying putting food to your mouth
  4. Facial expression: Maintain a neutral facial expression, focusing on clarity of hand movements.

Note

The signs for meals, such as breakfast, lunch, and dinner are derived from this base sign and look similar.
