How to Sign "Hand" in Sign Language

When learning sign language, this sign will be "handy" (get it?) in understanding and asking questions about what your handshape, hand location, or hand movement could look like for certain signs.

Signing "Hand"

  1. Handshape: Form hands into “closed 5” handshape
  2. Hand location: Bring your hands in front of your chest.
  3. Movement: Using your dominant hand, make a “slicing motion” across both your wrists.
  4. Facial expression: Maintain a neutral facial expression, focusing on clarity of hand movements.

Note

Feel free to use this when asking which hand a person predominantly uses!
