How to Sign "Important" in Sign Language

Understanding how to sign "important" is crucial for effective communication within the Deaf community, as it enables individuals to express significance, relevance, and priority in various contexts, which will definitely come in handy in professional environments!

Signing “Important”

  1. Hand shape: Form both hands into an “F” handshape, with your index fingers and thumbs are touching.
  2. Hand location: Bring both hands at about stomach level with your index fingers and thumbs touching each other.
  3. Movement: Move your hands in semi-circle upward motion, bringing your index fingers and thumbs to touch again when they meet at the top.
  4. Facial expression: If you are talking about something really important, you want your facial expression to match that and be exaggerated.

This sign can also mean “worthy” or “worth it.”
