How to Sign “Classroom” in Sign Language

This sign is a compound of the sign for “class” and the sign for “room.”

Signing “Class”

  1. Hand shape: Form both hands into a “C” handshape.
  2. Hand location: Raise both hands to about chest level. Start with your palms facing each other, your thumbs almost touching.
  3. Movement: Move both hands in an outward circular motion, the back of your fingers meeting in front of your body.
  4. Facial expression: Keep a neutral facial expression.

Signing “Room”

  1. Hand shape: Form both hands into a “closed-5” handshape.
  2. Hand location: Raise both hands to about your chest level. Start with your palms facing on your body.
  3. Movement: Move both hands so that the fingers face forward.
  4. Facial expression: Keep a natural facial expression.
