How to Sign “Stairs” in Sign Language

Signing stairs is exactly what you think. The way to sign stairs is usually dependent on the context of what you’re saying. If you’re talking about going upstairs, the sign will reflect that. If you’re talking about downstairs, the sign will reflect that, too.

Signing “Stairs”

  1. Hand shape: Form your dominant hand into a “bent-2” handshape.
  2. Hand location: Bring your hand in front of your body.
  3. Movement: Move your fingers and hand in either a downward or upward motion, simulating walking up and down stairs.
  4. Facial expression: Keep a neutral facial expression.
