How to Sign “Sister” in Sign Language

Sisters, with their bond of kinship and shared experiences, add depth and richness to our lives. Knowing how to sign 'sister' in American Sign Language (ASL) can be a valuable skill for engaging in meaningful small talk situations at work, fostering connections and understanding among colleagues.

Signing “Sister”

  1. Hand shape: Extend both hands into an ‘L’ handshape.
  2. Hand location: Hold your dominant hand close to your chin, and your non-dominant hand at about chest level.
  3. Movement: Bring your dominant hand to meet your non-dominant hand, placing the side of your dominant hand in between the ‘L’ of your non-dominant hand.
  4. Facial expression: Keep a neutral facial expression.
