How to Sign “Uncle” in Sign Language

Uncles, with their support and camaraderie, are cherished family members who enrich our lives with their humor and wisdom. Knowing how to sign 'uncle' in American Sign Language (ASL) can be a valuable skill for initiating friendly conversations and sharing personal anecdotes in small talk situations at work, fostering connections and understanding among colleagues.

Signing “Uncle”

  1. Hand shape:  Extend your dominant hand into an open 'U' shape, with fingers together and thumb extended.
  2. Hand location: Hold your hand near your forehead, along the outside of your dominant side.
  3. Movement: Shake your hand in a gentle motion.
  4. Facial expression: Keep a neutral facial expression.
